What happened to December? It seemed to have unfolded rather rapidly, and all of a sudden, it’s 2025. Then again, with all the holiday hustle and bustle, along with moving, for me, it seemed like a blur. Unfortunately, I haven’t had as much time to devote to post-production on CLAW Resurrection as I’d like, though I have made some progress. At the moment, I am still working through the loss my family suffered at the end of November. With that said, I hope that all of you had an enjoyable holiday season and wish you all the best in the New Year.
This month, I wanted to briefly touch on something I have noticed over the last little while regarding you, my wonderful readers: some of you are pure creature-feature people, while others are paranormal horror all the way. And so, at this point, I would like to mention the peanut butter and chocolate analogy, which seems appropriate in this case.

The CLAW series is definitely a creature feature, and the Lively Deadmarsh ABANDONED series is more paranormal horror. However, the two do cross paths, and there are some readers who enjoy both. As a result, some of you are who I like to think of as my ‘peanut butter cup’ readers, because you have the fullest picture of the Berryverse (click the link for the graphic), and the best of both worlds.
Not that there is anything wrong with a person liking only one kind of story over the other. However, like a person’s diet, having a steady stream of only one particular food can be limiting not only to one’s health but also to one’s enjoyment of the amazing variety of foods this world provides. Reading can be like that as well. And as I have pointed out before, you need a well-balanced diet, at least when it comes to reading my novels, due to their shared universe.

Although the CLAW series is a creature feature, it is also so much more, just as ABANDONED is. Both series contain elements of the other (and yes, there will be some creatures featured in Lively and Minerva’s next adventure, Besieged, along with more paranormal goodness).
Sadly, some readers limit themselves further by not reading the prequel to CLAW, Emergence, because it is a ‘Western’. Well, it may be set in 1895 Western Canada, but at its heart, it is a pure creature feature, which some readers have said they like even more than CLAW: A Canadian Thriller. So, for those of you who have not read it, give it a try. Not only will you have a great time with some ancestors of the people in the original CLAW, but you will have a better idea of what is happening once you pick up CLAW Resurrection this year. Don’t worry, you still have time to catch up. I am gradually getting back into the groove of post-production and now hope for a release around Valentine’s Day, which would be a lovely thing to see (pun intended).
Well, with that out of my system, I should get back to unpacking and sorting through things and back to post-production. And so, that brings us to the monthly draws! This month, the autographed paperback of their choice goes to janierenel@XXXXXX.com. And the audiobook goes to robertsincanada@XXXXXX.com. Congratulations to you both!
I’ll be back again in February with more news and, hopefully, an actual release date for Resurrection. Until then, take care, my friends.
Good health and great reads,
-Katie B
