On December 31st, 1981, high atop a snowy mountain peak in the rugged interior of British Columbia, Canada, ninety-eight beautiful people eat, drink, laugh and dance inside the opulent grand ballroom of The Sinclair Resort Hotel.

The clock strikes twelve, a cheer goes up and the music swells; balloons drop and streamers swirl.

Then blackness…

Fifteen seconds later, the power returns and every living soul inside the ballroom has vanished, never to be seen again.

Now, forty years later, Preternatural Investigator Lively Deadmarsh and his twin sister, Minerva, have been brought in to solve this decades-old mystery once and for all.

Should they fail, they may become part of it, forever…

    1. Hi Connie! Thank you SO much! It’s always fabulous to hear from another visitor to Lawless, British Columbia! But don’t be sad, there IS a sequel (not quite announced) to CLAW coming next spring, CLAW: Resurgence. Also, not yet announced, either, but I have just completed contract negotiations for an audiobook of CLAW! Arriving this fall, it will be produced by a major audiobook production studio, Recorded Books. Also, just revealed yesterday here on my site, the cover of my next novel, which I think you might enjoy, ABANDONED: A Lively Deadmarsh Novel. Please sign up for my email list, or follow me on Facebook, if you wish, then you’ll be able to keep right up to date. Thanks again for your kind words, it is always nice to know there will be more visitors returning to Lawless for another vacation next year. 🙂

  5. Well, there certainly is a new author of horror on the scene. Her first book ‘Claw” is riveting from beginning to end. Has well defined characters; especially the Conservation Officer Moon. Can’t wait for her next book. Well done, Katie!

    1. Hi Dale! Thank you! The sequel to CLAW will be released next spring. In the meantime, this fall will see the release of ABANDONED. It is set in the same universe as CLAW with references to people and places in Lawless, BC. And if you read that, you will have some clues and insights regarding CLAW: Resurgence. Thank you for your interest and support!

  6. Absolutely loved Claw, all the characters, and the very imaginative and absorbing plot. Can’t wait until your next books are available. You are a fantastic author!

    1. So glad you enjoyed your visit to the beautiful Kokanee valley and Lawless! It’s quite lovely there this time of year.

Renovations are currently underway at the Sinclair Resort Hotel featured in my next novel, ABANDONED, coming this fall. I believe you’ll enjoy Lively and Minerva Deadmarsh’s adventure as they investigate a four-decade-old unsolved mass disappearance in the resort’s ballroom. And as an added bonus, it even ties into CLAW: Resurgence coming spring 2021.

Thank you so much for your comments, they are always, and greatly appreciated.

    1. Thanks, Sunny! CLAW: Resurgence, the sequel to CLAW, will be released in the spring of next year. In the meantime, if you are someone who enjoys listening to books as well, be sure to keep an ear out for the end of July when CLAW: The Audiobook is released by Tantor Media.

    1. Hi Daniel. I am currently putting twelve hour days to get it done, but I am so sorry to say, ABANDONED Book 1 might not be out until the middle of January 2021. Thank you so much for your patience. Happy Holidays! 🙂

  10. Hi Katie, I just read Claw. Absolutely loved it. It took me 2 1/2 days to read it, as I couldn’t pull myself away from it. I could visualize the location and the creature. Really excited to hear the sequel is going to be coming out.

    1. Thank you, Craig! I am glad that CLAW enthralled you so. 🙂 The sequel will be a lot of fun, and I am glad you are looking forward to it. I am hoping for an early to mid-summer release. But first, I have to get my haunted resort novel, ABANDONED finished (Book One is releasing very soon!)

  11. I have just finished abandon 1 read it in 1-2 days. cannot wait to read #2 any idea when? I will start on Claw books soon. Abandon was excellent, could not put it down. Was on edge of my seat to see what was coming next. Great, great book. By the way , everybody laughs at me because I am 67 yrs. old and love these books and sci-fi too. Can’t wait.

    1. Hi Sheena. I am so glad you enjoyed ABANDONED Book 1. Book 2 should be out by early to mid-May. And I am glad you picked up the CLAW series as well, they are a lot of fun. As well, there are two new books coming out this summer in that series. CLAW Emergence Book 1: Into the Light and CLAW Resurgence, the sequel to CLAW.

People can laugh all they want, but never let them make you feel bad because you think outside of the box and enjoy new, different and exciting stories. I’ve had similar experiences throughout my life as you have had with people belittling our choices. But let me tell you, horror and sci-fi readers are some of the most awesome, intelligent and interesting folks I have ever had the pleasure to meet, and it is our joy of the unusual that makes us unique.

      Stay awesome, Sheena,

      Kindest regards,

      -Katie Berry

  12. I absolutely loved Claw! I can’t wait until the next book! Any hints to when it will be released?

    1. Hi Kelly. Thank you, I am so glad to hear that! The first book in the prequel to CLAW will be out in July and the sequel to CLAW should be out by the end of summer. In the meantime, you might enjoy ABANDONED Book 1. 🙂

      1. I just finished Abandoned 1, and I was enthralled throughout the whole book! Claw 1 absolutely enraptured me from beginning to end, and I’m on pins and needles waiting for the 2nd release. I belive Claw series, along with Abandoned series, would make an absolute top ten Netflix series! It deserves to be made into a Netflix series! I’m hoping and fingers crossed that it does! Anticipating the release of the Claw 2!

BTW—any hints to the month or date Claw 2 will be released??😃

      2. Hi! I am so glad you enjoyed it! CLAW 2, also known as CLAW Resurgence, will be out in mid-to-late August, if all goes well.

And thank you for your kind words regarding CLAW and ABANDONED as a Netflix series. I agree that they would work well. As an FYI, when I wrote Austin Murphy’s character, I did so with Ryan Reynolds in mind. He’d be a lot of fun in the role, or even as Lively. 🙂 Maybe we should start a Neflix petition to see how many people it would take to sign a letter to get them to look at CLAW and ABANDONED? Netflix said a couple of years ago that had 500 Million dollars they wanted to invest in Canadian content. We should call them on it. 🙂

As an aside, I try to write all my novels as if they were a movie I would want to see, playing solely for me inside my head. And after that, I get to share them with other people!. So much fun. 🙂 Thanks again for your comments!

      3. Does anyone else agree that Claw series and Abandoned series would make absolutely fantastic, top trending series on Netflix?? I sure do! Here’s hoping and wishing they do become Netflix series 😃😃🤞🐻🐾🐀🐅🕷🐜💣🦴👩‍✈️👨‍🔧🧑‍🔧❄🌨🥶🤯

  13. Just finished reading Abandoned:Arrivals and Awakenings – Loved this book! Going on Amazon now to see if I can snag the 2nd one. Characters were awesome…and believable – I love everything supernatural, ghostly, and unexplained. The mass disappearance is tantalizing! Can’t wait to continue. Read this in about 3 days (could have read in 1 day if I didn’t have to eat or sleep lol ) – Def going to check out your other books! Thanks for sharing your talent with us 🙂

    1. Hi Janelle! Thank you for your kind words. 🙂 I do try to keep things interesting. I hope you were able to snag Book 2 and are exploring more of the Sinclair with Lively and Minerva as I write this. Your enjoyment, and reaching out, makes all the long hours more than worth it. Please leave a review on
Amazon sharing your enjoyment with others if you can. It helps greatly, and once again, thank you so much! 🙂
