It’s amazing how time flies when you’re working hard on a novel! I hope everybody else has had a good spring so far. When I haven’t been writing, I’ve been trying to get out and enjoy some of the lovely weather here in the West Kootenays of beautiful BC. Green is such a lovely colour!
Summer will be here in less than three weeks, and it will be another hot one in the Northern hemisphere, at least in some places. I hope you all stay as cool as you possibly can. If you feel overheated, maybe it would help to think of Lively Deadmarsh and his current location at the North Pole, where long johns are something he definitely wishes he had packed right about now.
BESIEGED is just shy of 65,000 words as I type this, or about two-thirds of the way along, and I’m just starting the last act. There are a lot of ‘things going on’ at the moment, and a heck of a lot of fun will be had once you eventually read the story. And when I say ‘fun’, you know that’s said with a nudge and a wink. You will, of course, receive my usual compelling, dramatic, horrific and thrilling prose (with just the right amount of sardonic humour thrown in).
I would tell you more about the ‘things going on’, but if I did, I would be giving away some of the plot, and I don’t ever want to do that. I want you to enjoy the novel and have everything unfold for the first time without a bunch of spoilers. Because if you’re like me, there’s nothing worse than a spoiler, especially when you don’t see it coming.
One thing I’m not keeping quiet about is my latest nostalgia acquisition from eBay. As many of you know, I’ve spent a lot of time rereading all the old EC comics. And so, it’s natural that I would eventually want to revisit the Tales from the Crypt TV series. Many of you might remember it from HBO back in the day. I watched it when it first aired many, many decades ago, and it’s so satisfying to own the entire series on DVD now. Along with the Cryptkeeper’s tales, I managed to scoop up a few more favourites, including WKRP and Space: 1999, new and unopened, for a very reasonable price. Witnessing Les Nessman reporting the unforgettable turkey drop in Cincinnati and Commander John Koenig battling strange alien beasts on the moon (while looking ABFAB upscaled on my big screen) is a true delight.
In addition to things of a televisual nature, I have been revisiting ‘old movies’ from the seventies and eighties, and growing my DVD and Blu-ray collection. Perhaps, once I get the movie vault all set up in the basement, I’ll take you on a tour. Though not of a horrific nature (your mileage may vary depending on your opinion of Disco), my most recent movie night is the subject of our latest poster parody from a parallel planet.
