If You Write It, They Will Read.

Authenticity Over Trends

Outstanding in My Field (of Dreams)

When I started writing CLAW in 2014, I didn’t research what was selling or chase any market trends. I wrote what I loved: scary monster stories with relatable characters, small-town settings, interconnected universes, and yes, the odd, over-the-top meal description—what I call ‘food porn’, because life’s too short for boring meals, even in horror fiction.

And then readers like you found me, and the rest, as they say, is history. Looking to the future, and to keep you informed, CLAW: The Movie is still alive and kicking after having a close call with being brought to life. It was sold to a major studio, to be developed as a whole series, but then there were complications, and it all fell through at the last minute. But such is the nature of the beast that is Hollywood, from what I understand. So with all that being said, the movie (or series) is moving forward, and I am exploring many different options at the moment. CLAW: The Movie will be made, one way or the other., I promise you. Once something more concrete occurs, as a newsletter subscriber, you will be the first to know. An example of a suspenseful, humorous and heartfelt horror thriller.

Speaking of authenticity attracting the right readers: Over the last few years, I’ve gotten emails from fans all over the world, thanking me and calling it “Christmas coming early” when a new book drops, or saying the CLAW series is their all-time favourite and telling me how many times they’ve reread the series (big shout out to those that have). Many readers, like myself, feel like it’s coming home when you reconnect with the characters in Lawless after a prolonged absence.

Two years was quite a wait for the latest, and I apologise for that once again. But good things come to those who wait, and I hope that many of you have enjoyed reading CLAW Resurrection at this point. If you have, please consider leaving a review on whichever platform you bought it. They all help me to continue writing more suspenseful, humorous, heartfelt horror thrillers that I know you’ll love.

Audiobook News – The Irish Connection

As previously announced on my social media accounts, The CLAW Resurrection audiobook drops on March 17th, 2026, which, as you know, is Saint Patrick’s Day! Those who’ve already read the eBook or paperback version will already know of Resurrection’s connection to Ireland. However, I will say no more out of courtesy to those of you yet to read the novel. Just think, only four-and-a-half months to go! Here’s a link to Audible via Amazon for those wanting to preorder: https://amzn.to/3JwqtoK

New EC comics just like the old ones!

Where the Monsters Come From

People sometimes ask what I’m reading in horror. Honestly, not much in the line of current fiction at the moment, though there are many talented authors out there. One of the main things getting in the way of my reading is my addiction to horror and sci-fi movies. Some of my latest guilty pleasures, in no particular order: Primitive War (awesome, go see it), The Monkey (over the top in all the best ways), The Oddity (creepy as hell), Smile 2 (even creepier) and Weapons (a true blast).

My love of film is the reason I write my novels in such a cinematic manner. And when I’m not watching movies, I am rereading classics like Weird Fantasy, Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, et al—all in paperbacks (I already own all the ebook compilation editions, so it’s time to go physical). I am also enjoying (and have started collecting paperbacks) of the new EC Comics. These lovely, slick and visceral new stories with old-fashioned flavour are out now, called Epitaphs from the Abyss (and it’s just as much fun as the originals).

“...it’ll be dark soon, and they mostly come out at night… mostly.”

Speaking of Fun Horror…

Since there seems to be no end in sight to my parodical movie musings, please enjoy my latest poster mashup: FELIENS — “In Space, no one can hear you hiss.”

Each month, I create a new horror movie parody poster for our mutual amusement. To see the growing collection, check out the full gallery HERE. And there is a special bonus poster on the site for you to enjoy in case you missed it on Facebook or Instagram.

Halloween Treats!

A Meal You’ll Never Forget

The newsletter is a day early this month since I wanted to give you a special Halloween treat. The Dinner Guest is now available in the newly renovated download section of my website at https://katieberry.ca/free-short-stories/. The Dinner Guest had a soft launch a few weeks ago, and those faithful readers who regularly check for new short stories were no doubt rewarded. If you haven’t read it yet, now’s your chance, and I think you’ll enjoy it. Set just after the Civil War in the United States, it is based on actual historical figures, up to a point. And after that point, my inner Sam Peckinpah takes over, and everything goes south in a satisfyingly bloody conclusion.

More Treats: The Monthly Giveaway

As a special Halloween treat, I am giving away THREE audiobooks this month! The lucky winners of a free Katie Berry audiobook of their choice are: peedugan@XXXXX.com, cwveale@XXXXXX.net, sonikswolves@XXXXXX.com. Congratulations to you all!

Thanks for being with me on this continuing journey of monsters, mayhem and Canadian craziness (and thanks for reading to the end)!

Good health and a spooky All Hallows’ Eve to you all,

-Katie
