The Merry Month of Maybe

May is a month of many things you should be doing, maybe. From spring-cleaning winter’s mess to dancing around poles, the choices are endless. Amid this flurry of excitement, many people are also measuring the force of their midichlorians in anticipation of the 4th of the month. Meanwhile, I’m here to share an update on BESIEGED, along with another movie poster featuring Nibbler and Fry. This month, our furry friends take a little trip down to Chinatown. Rumour has it there’s some trouble brewing.

Minerva is discovering that the Slaughtered Sheep is much more than it seems…

Speaking of trouble, Lively Deadmarsh is up to his armpits in it. His cruise that was not a cruise has ramped up the monster factor to eleven. Minerva, meanwhile, is experiencing all the mind-bending horror that the Slaughtered Sheep keeps hidden in its shadows, and trust me, there’s a lot. Though Minerva doesn’t know it yet, she’s about to encounter something that just might make her question everything she thought she knew about the paranormal world.

Now that I’ve piqued your interest, I can give you the word count as well. Progress has been solid, and BESIEGED is now over 50,000 words (50, 108 to be exact). I am currently working on chapter 25 and expect at least another 50,000 words before bringing everything to completion (probably closer to sixty chapters, and I believe a little over 120,000 words). Things are going well, but my pace is not as fast as I’d hoped. At my current rate, the first draft should be complete sometime this summer. With that said, I am still hoping for a release date before Christmas, but that will, of course, depend on how the editing goes once I finish the first draft. Fingers crossed.

Crossing my fingers is also something I’m doing regarding CLAW’s motion picture possibilities. I am still actively working on bringing it to the screen, and have hope that someday it will be CLAW: The Series

I’ve been working on some script possibilities and between the original novel set in the present day, along with Resurgence and Resurrection, there’s enough going on for a good eight to twelve episodes of icy Canadian thriller action. CLAW’s Old West  monster-filled prequel series, Emergence, would be good for at least that many episodes on its own. And then there is ABANDONED. My paranormal/horror/sci-fi/drama/thriller could potentially go for a couple of seasons because there is just so much going on. So, as I said, fingers crossed, and I hope to have more news to share in the future.

Nibbler and Fry have taken a detour into the 1980s this month. As you can see in my latest fictional feline film poster, the boys are having some big trouble, and it’s not in River City. I think this film and many of the other parodies I’ve done would be a lot of fun to see, if not in the theatre, at least in full motion with a trailer to go with them (it’s something I am looking into, along with some cool new book trailers for my novels as well). In any event, I hope they are something that gives you a smirk or perhaps even a grin every now and again when you scroll through my monthly newsletter.

A grin is also something you might have if you’re one of this month’s lucky winners! As a subscriber to the newsletter, your winning email address gives you a choice of any one of my ten novels on audiobook with which to treat your ears. So without further ado, this month’s prizes go to kimbajl@XXXXXX.com and to moe.otto@XXXXXX.com. Congratulations to you both!

If you’re not already a Katie Berry Books Insider, you can join the fun and have a chance to win an audiobook next month and the month after that. To sign up and receive free short stories and novelettes, go here: https://katieberry.ca/become-a-katie-berry-books-insider-and-win/

Okay, that’s it for now. I need to go write another 10,000 words or so before next month’s update. Take care of yourselves, and try to enjoy a little of that merry month in which we now find ourselves.

Good health and great reads,

-Katie B
